Write a ReviewI've been checking out coffee spots around Perth for a while now, and The Hayes Cafe in West Perth is one of those relaxed places you just feel drawn to. Sitting on Hay Street, it's unassuming but cozy, a perfect spot for a laid-back break from the city hustle. It's a place where you nod at a familiar face or just enjoy your own company with a good book. Even though it's closed on weekends, it's buzzing from Monday to Friday, 7 am to 4 pm. Middle of the day, you're likely to find a mix of office workers grabbing their coffee fix and locals stopping by for a chat.
Their coffee hits the spot every time. The baristas seem to just get how you like it—aromatic and strong without being over the top. They have options for different tastes and diet needs, which is a plus. Their takeaway cups are perfect for a walk through Kings Park, which is just around the corner. The park has these great trails and views of the city. Grab a coffee, take a stroll, and it's really a breath of fresh air.
The Hayes Cafe does more than just coffee, though. Their brunch menu is solid and fits the Perth scene well. They offer fresh and tasty options, with something for everyone. You can sense their care in the dishes they bring out, no frills but good quality stuff. I'm a fan of their sandwiches—always fresh, and the fillings are generous. If you're there around midday, their salads are worth a try too, especially on a warm day.
They've got outdoor seating, which I appreciate, especially when the sun's out. It's pet-friendly, so you'll often see folks with their dogs lounging about. Adding to that relaxed neighborhood vibe, it's nice to sit outside and people-watch while sipping on your latte. Plus, the cafe is wheelchair-accessible, which makes it inclusive and easy for everyone to visit.
Despite being in the city, the area has this quaint, quiet flair. West Perth isn't just about business and suits. You'll find some charming shops and boutiques around if you're looking to explore. Not far from The Hayes, there's Watertown—a shopping center offering bargains on all sorts of brand names. It's a different pace from the quiet cafes, but it's nice to have options to mix up your day.
Back at The Hayes, the staff is usually friendly and efficient, a factor that keeps bringing me back. It's great not having to wait too long when you're grabbing a quick lunch or in need of an early morning boost. And if you're staying in for a bit, the inside has a warm, inviting feel. It's a combination of that familiar cafe mix—clinking cups, quiet chatter, and the mellow buzz of the espresso machine working its magic.
They've got a delivery option, but I think the best way to enjoy it is in person. You don't quite capture the full vibe unless you're there. Yet, it's nice to know you can bring that quality straight to your doorstep if you need. Especially on one of those busy work days when you can't step out but still crave something satisfying from a favorite spot.
Not having a website doesn't really detract from the experience. Sometimes I like discovering more by being there rather than reading about it online first. There's something about walking into a cafe and being pleasantly surprised by what you find. Plus, the word of mouth is strong in Perth, and a place like The Hayes doesn't need online fluff to prove its worth.
Overall, The Hayes Cafe is like that dependable friend who you can always count on for a good time. Between its location, good coffee, and warm atmosphere, it's one of those spots that more than earns a regular visit. Whether you're there to work or unwind, it delivers what you need with a laid-back grace. It's a little slice of community nestled in the city that reminds you to slow down and savor the moment.
