I found myself at Straits Cafe at the Rendezvous Hotel on a breezy Tuesday morning. One thing's for sure: the ocean view is a stunning backdrop. The cafe's right there on Scarborough Beach, so you can sip on your coffee while watching waves crash in. I started my day with a hot drink and breakfast here as I heard they open early, around 6:30 am during the week.

The food here is your modern Aussie fare. Nothing too fancy but satisfying enough. I ordered the classic poached eggs with avocado and toast. The avocado was perfectly ripe, and the eggs were cooked just right. Sometimes they also serve more adventurous dishes like kangaroo or baramundi when you want to shake things up. It's never the same old menu, which is a plus for your tastebuds.

The seating's comfortable, but I like grabbing a spot near the window. Natural light sweeps over those tables, making the morning feel a bit more special. The outdoor seating is also a nice option if you can snag a seat. There's that fresh ocean air mixing with your morning brew. They offer wheelchair-accessible features everywhere, from the entrance to the restrooms. I saw a friendly bartender preparing cocktails, standard for the place since they have a full bar on-site. I might come back for that after work.

They are dog-friendly, which is a smart move. I noticed a couple of locals strolling in with their pooches for a quick cup and chat. I struck up a conversation with one of the regulars who praised the staff. They're attentive but not overbearing, which is refreshing. You can order food for delivery too if you feel like having a lazy weekend at home.

The cafe is in Scarborough, a lively area filled with things to do. Right across the road, you've got the beach, popular with both swimmers and surfers. In the mood for more than just the sea? You could check out the Scarborough Beach Pool nearby. It's a heated pool, perfect for swimming laps, with an ocean view of its own.

For shopaholics, you can't miss the shops and boutiques scattered around. Scarborough is buzzing, especially during the evenings. Night markets pop up often with local artisans selling crafts and foods. There's also the nearby Scarborough Amphitheatre, which hosts live music acts and events when the weather's nice.

Going with public transport is simple since the buses run frequently here. The hustle and bustle can get you stuck in traffic sometimes, but that's Perth life for you. Parking is mostly manageable, though I spotted a few folks having a hard time finding a spot during peak hours.

An interesting aspect about Straits Cafe is its blend of travelers and locals. Hotel guests add a charming diversity to the mix. It's where tourists meet and chat with us locals. It keeps the atmosphere lively, and that's always a nice touch to my regular cafe hangouts.

The cafe stays open till 9 pm, which is great for dinner plans. I've yet to try their dinner menu, but I've heard it's worth it, especially with the oceanfront view at sunset. Reviews are mixed, some loving it, while others find it a bit inconsistent. But isn't that the adventure? Trying out what others rave or rant about.

It holds an average rating, 3.6 stars out of 5, so there's definitely room for improvement. Some folks mentioned slow service during busy hours, which isn't unusual for popular spots. I noticed the staff running around a bit during my visit too. Patience is key, I'd reckon.

Overall, Straits Cafe is more than just a place to get your caffeine fix. It's where you can breathe in Perth's coastal beauty, have a decent meal, and catch up with friends or just yourself. If you're a fan of places with more than just food and coffee, this cafe won't disappoint. They combine good service with splendid views, making it a go-to for me when I'm in Scarborough.

Next time, I may pop by a little later in the day to check out their cocktail abilities. I'll probably wander down to the beach after, coffee in hand, enjoying the easy pace of Perth.
