Write a ReviewFinding a great coffee spot in Perth isn't always easy, but In Good Hands in Mount Hawthorn has become a favorite of mine. The coffee shop sits on Scarborough Beach Road and is in a lively area with a mix of shops, eateries, and locals bustling about. With its 4.7-star rating from over a hundred reviews, the place seems to impress many, and after several visits, I can see why.
The cafe is open early in the morning, just perfect for an early riser like me. It opens at 6 am most weekdays. It's great when you want a fresh start or a place to read the morning news. The weekend hours shift slightly, opening from 6:30 am on Saturday and 7 am on Sunday, wrapping up around lunchtime. It's a perfect spot for morning brunch, and they cater to both dine-in and takeaway options.
What I really appreciate about In Good Hands is how accessible it is. The place has wheelchair-accessible parking, seating, and an entrance, making it an inclusive space for everyone. I've seen plenty of folks with prams and wheelchairs navigate comfortably, which isn't always the case in older buildings around Perth. Also, they are dog-friendly, which is a nice touch for those who can't bear to leave their furry friends at home. I've enjoyed several mornings sitting outside with a coffee and our family dog by my side.
Mount Hawthorn itself is a lovely suburb. It's got this mix of both old-school charm and modern flair. There are some quirky shops to explore, which makes for a perfect post-coffee activity. Plus, the main street is full of life with boutiques and small businesses, giving you plenty to browse through. The area doesn't get swamped with tourists, so it feels genuine and relaxed.
But let's talk about the coffee. They know their stuff here. The baristas are skilled, and the beans are fresh. You can taste the difference. Each cup is smooth and well-crafted. I usually go for a flat white, and it's consistently excellent. Their variety of blends caters to different tastes, so coffee lovers will appreciate the selection. They also offer delivery, which is handy if you're caught up at work but still want a good brew.
As for the food, they serve brunch items that are honestly delicious. Their menu isn't overwhelming but focuses on quality. You'll find classics like smashed avo and poached eggs, always made perfectly. The dishes are fresh, and portions seem just right. Whether you're after a light snack or a full meal, there's something to satisfy your hunger without going overboard.
One thing to note is they don't have a large dining area. It can get a bit snug during peak hours, especially on the weekends. If you're planning a visit on a Saturday or Sunday, getting there early is wise. However, the tight space adds to the cozy vibe, making it feel welcoming rather than cramped.
Toilets are available, which is convenient, especially for longer visits. The atmosphere inside is inviting, with a casual and laid-back style. It's a spot where you can sit back, enjoy your coffee, and people-watch without feeling rushed. There's a genuine vibe, and you notice it in the way staff treat regulars and newcomers alike. They remember repeat customers, which makes the experience that bit more special.
Besides what's on offer at the cafe, it's also a good place to start your day before exploring nearby spots like Leederville. Leederville's food scene is popular with locals and is just a short drive away. You'll also find the popular Beatty Park Leisure Centre close by. It's a great pool and fitness facility, perfect for a swim after a coffee or if you're looking to burn off some of those brunch calories.
While parking can sometimes be a little tricky during busy hours on weekends, the area offers several spaces on surrounding streets. If I arrive on weekdays, it's typically not an issue at all. Mount Hawthorn is safe and family-friendly, so if you're with the kids, there's plenty of space for a pram or stroller. Plus, with parks nearby, you can always take a nice stroll after brunch.
So many cafes in Perth come and go, but I have a feeling In Good Hands is around to stay. It's got everything you want from a neighborhood hangout. Good coffee. Tasty eats. Friendly service. And a setting that makes you feel right at home. This spot is a gem in Mount Hawthorn, and I'll be back many more times, without a doubt.
