Write a ReviewI've been to quite a few coffee spots in and around Perth, and Cafe @ Crossways in Kelmscott has a vibe that keeps me coming back. Set right on Railway Avenue, it's a low-key gem hidden from the hustle and bustle of the city. I like that this place is not trying too hard; it's comfortable and easygoing, which suits Kelmscott's laid-back feel.
The coffee here is solid. If you're a caffeine hound like me, you'll appreciate their consistent brews. It's refreshing to sip something that's not burnt or too fancy—just a good, honest cup. And their baristas know what they're doing without talking down to you or making things too complicated. They know their craft but aren't pretentious about it.
One thing I noticed straight away is how accessible the place is. For anyone needing a bit more room to move—wheelchair users, parents with strollers, or if you just have a lot of shopping bags—it's sorted out real well. There are dedicated parking bays for those in wheelchairs, and all entrances, seats, and facilities are wheelchair friendly. Simple but thoughtful touches like these make a world of difference.
If you've got a pooch, you'll be happy to know this spot welcomes dogs. It makes sense because, after all, you're probably making the most of the nearby parks. Rushton Park is just a stone's throw away, and it's a sweet little spot for walks, runs, or just letting the canine crew stretch their legs. It's nice to grab a takeaway coffee from the cafe and stroll around the park.
The food at Cafe @ Crossways feels like it's made with care. Nothing pretentious on the menu, and it hits the right balance of taste and simplicity. I'm a fan of their breakfasts. Their brunch options aren't bad either, and they've got enough on the menu to keep you coming back to try more. Plus, if you fancy a bit of a lie-in, they're open from 9 am on weekdays, so you've got time to relax in the morning.
While some cafes cram you next to strangers, this one has enough space to breathe. You can either sit inside, enjoying the relaxed vibe, or pick a spot outside if the weather's nice. It's handy how they cater to different moods or groups, whether you're with mates or flying solo with a book or a laptop.
On weekends, though, keep in mind they're only open on Saturdays until 3 pm and close on Sundays. It's a tad disappointing if you're looking for a Sunday spot, but hey, maybe that's a chance to discover somewhere else nearby or check out Kelmscott Plaza for any shopping errands you need to do.
Speaking of which, Kelmscott's got all the essentials. You've got your local shops, grocery stores, and a couple of other eateries nearby. If you're in the mood for a bit of variety, why not explore the area a little? Everything's close enough that you could easily make a day of it.
It's worth checking out their website if you're curious about their menu before heading in. Still, everything's pretty straightforward once you're there, and the staff is always keen to help out. In my experience, they've been friendly and efficient, even during the rush hours.
Overall, Cafe @ Crossways ticks a lot of boxes for me as a regular spot. It's got that blend of friendly service, good coffee, and a community-centered atmosphere that keeps things genuine. There's a steadiness about this place that's comforting. It's not about being flashy or overly trendy—it's just a nice, dependable spot in Kelmscott where you can unwind. If you haven't dropped in yet, I'd say it's worth a go.
