Write a ReviewI swing by Miss Maud in Joondalup quite often. It's nestled right inside the Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre, which is handy. The whole place has a cozy Swedish vibe going on. I like that charm it has, almost like stepping into a little slice of Scandinavia right in Joondalup. It mixes nicely with the buzz of shoppers zooming by outside.
First thing you notice when you enter is the smell of fresh pastries. It's comfort in an aroma. They've got this impressive array of pastries and cakes right by the counter. Sometimes I just stand there, taking it all in, before actually ordering. It's hard to resist the temptation of sweets like their cinnamon buns or princess cakes. Perfect with a cup of coffee. Not every place serves both great cakes and coffee, but Miss Maud seems to nail both most of the time. You don't just get a sugar fix; you get that caffeine boost to keep you energized for more shopping or people-watching.
Their coffee's decent. It's not the best cup in Perth—not by a stretch—but it holds up. They offer the usual array, from flat whites to cappuccinos. It's consistent, which is what you want from your regular spot. It's not too fancy and not too bold, just a safe middle ground.
The service is friendly but can be a bit slow sometimes, especially on busy days. It doesn't bother me much though, as I often pop in when I have some time to spare. Sitting outside near the bustling shopping center, you can take in a nice slice of people-watching. Joondalup is a lively suburb, and there's always something happening.
The seating area is pretty accommodating. They've got plenty of space, including a few spots that cater to wheelchair users. I've seen folks with dogs around too, so it's a pretty chill spot for everyone. If you're carrying a lot of shopping bags, no worries. They offer takeaway options, which means you can grab a pastry or coffee and be on your way.
Now, besides Miss Maud, Lakeside Joondalup itself has a lot to offer. After a refreshing coffee break, there are heaps of shops to explore. They house a big David Jones and Myer, which can keep you browsing for ages. Fashion stores, tech shops, and little specialty boutiques line the corridors. It's one of those places you can spend an entire Saturday without ever realizing where the time went.
If you're in for a movie, the center has a big cinema complex too. Catching the newest release right after downing a cup of coffee and a pastry sets the perfect mood. Nearby, there are also heaps of casual dining spots if the pastries aren't filling enough, or if you're craving something different after all that sugar.
To escape the shopping center madness, the nearby Yellagonga Regional Park is a gem. It's surprisingly close and offers a breath of fresh air with its serene lake and expanses of greenery. Ideal for a walk or even a spot of picnic if the weather is good. I've often left Miss Maud with a takeaway coffee to stroll around those paths, enjoying the quiet.
Joondalup itself bustles with life. Being a hub in Perth, it draws in a diverse crowd. Just outside Lakeside, you can find the Joondalup Library. It's a great place to chill, read, or just relax before heading back into the fray. If you time it right, you might even catch one of their local events or exhibitions.
Public transport is spot on too, with Joondalup train station being just a short walk away. That's a big plus. Parking can sometimes be a headache, so being close to the train line and bus stops makes it easy for everyone to swing by.
Overall, Miss Maud in Joondalup isn't just about the coffee or pastries. It's about the whole experience of being part of this buzzing area, mixing shopping, leisure, and green spaces all within reach. So if you're in the area and craving a bite and a brew, it's a spot I'd say is worth trying at least once. You get a slice of Swedish flair combined with the local Aussie vibe, which is a good enough reason to pop in now and then.
