I stopped by Health Freak Cafe Joondalup last Tuesday around noon. You can find it in the Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre. That mall is quite popular around here. It's nice because you can hit some retail therapy before or after grabbing some grub. And let's face it, you need to park the car anyway, so why not shop a bit?

Health Freak Cafe looks pretty neat and tidy. It's got the vibe of someone who tries to stay hip with the times. The decor is simple but kinda cool in its way. You get a clear sense that the focus is on clean eating, even from a quick glance inside. As a regular around Perth's coffee scene, I like to see how each place expresses itself. This one's all about being health-conscious. Not a bad angle, I say.

The menu at Health Freak covers a broad range of options that suit different tastes. They've got bowls, wraps, smoothies, even gluten-free and vegan stuff. It's a total win for those counting calories or who just like to chow healthy. I went with a chicken wrap and a mixed fruit smoothie this time. The wrap was pretty good, jam-packed with fresh greens and lean chicken. Not greasy, which is a plus. The smoothie felt thick and real, no fake sugar buzz.

The staff there is pretty chill and helpful. No cranky baristas here. I mean, they answered my questions about the smoothies without a fuss, which is always nice. A small thing, but it matters, you know? You can choose to eat in or take away—both seem equally popular. The dine-in vibe is relaxed, great for a quick bite or catching up with friends. Sometimes, it's just nice to sit and people-watch while you sip on something tasty.

One thing I noticed is that they've got a few seats outside too. Perfect for dog owners since they clearly welcome pets. You could totally make it a stop during a walk. The place has all the accessibility options sorted, like ramps and wheelchair-friendly entrances. This makes it straightforward for everyone to enjoy.

Got a buddy who can't handle gluten? No drama here. The team clearly pays attention to dietary stuff. Benzon's coffee shop scene has somewhat similar spots, but I find the balance here between food and atmosphere rather good. It doesn't get too crowded either, so it's not one of those places where you have to elbow your way to the counter.

While it's not really a gourmet coffee shop, the coffee they offer is good enough. If you're a huge coffee connoisseur, maybe you might find better-executed brews at specialist joints. But for an average joe like me, who enjoys a decent caffeine kick, Health Freak suffices just fine. And sometimes, it's less about the coffee and more about the whole package—the ease, vibe, and food options.

Walking around Joondalup, there are quite a few other places worth noting. The Neil Hawkins Park is just a small drive from the cafe. It's a chill spot to unwind, especially if you're into bird watching or just like kickback in nature. Plus, you'll find the stunning Lake Joondalup views there. If you've got kids or are young at heart, Adventure World makes for an epic visit. But let's not digress too much from our little coffee adventure.

So, to sum it up—if you're someone who enjoys a quieter, health-focused spot with hassle-free food and drink options, Health Freak Cafe Joondalup holds solid ground. You can go solo, with mates, or even bring your pooch along for a slice of the action. It's not too far from some fun spots, serving a chill headquarters for your Perth excursions.
