Write a ReviewI recently popped into The Mill Bakehouse on Norfolk, one of my favorite spots in Fremantle. This little gem sits close to the University of Notre Dame and the famous Fremantle Markets. It's a great pit stop if you're exploring the area.
Inside, the place has a cozy, welcoming vibe. Think rustic tables and warm, inviting lighting. You'll always see a mix of students, tourists, and locals relaxing with a cup of coffee. Speaking of coffee, it's fantastic here. The baristas know their craft and always brew up something delightful. I usually go for a flat white, but every coffee on their menu tastes spot-on.
They've also got a nice spread of pastries and baked goods. I can't resist their croissants, fresh and flaky. For a more substantial meal, you'll find a decent brunch menu that hits the spot. Their eggs benedict is quite popular, and the smashed avo is always a win.
Even if you bring along your furry friend, you won't have any trouble since they're dog-friendly. I've seen plenty of pups enjoying the outdoor seating with their owners. It's a perfect spot for people-watching, especially on a nice day.
Accessibility is no issue here, which is awesome. There's a wheelchair-friendly entrance and seating. Plus, the parking is convenient and set up to be accessible too, making it easy for anyone to visit without fuss.
If you're more of a takeaway person, they have you covered. I've grabbed coffee to-go a few times when I was on tight schedules. And if you live nearby, they offer delivery, which is super handy for lazy weekends.
Their schedule is pretty standard. They open early at 6 am on weekdays, perfect for grabbing a quick breakfast on the way to work. On the weekends, they open a bit later, which works well for those of us who want a lazy brunch.
In terms of the area, it's got all the charm you'd expect from Fremantle. Around the corner, you can stroll to the Round House, the oldest building still standing in Western Australia. If you're into arts and crafts, the area has quirky shops and art galleries worth a wander.
Parking in Fremantle can be a bit tricky, especially on weekends. But if you arrive early or don't mind a short walk, you'll find a spot. Alternatively, public transport is a viable option, with many buses going through the area.
When the weather's good, the nearby Esplanade Park is a lovely place to relax after grabbing a coffee. There's usually something happening there—be it live music or families just having picnics. It's also a stone's throw away from Bathers Beach, lovely for an afternoon stroll or to catch a sunset.
On Saturdays, I like combining a visit to The Mill with a wander through the Fremantle Markets. They're just a short walk away and host a variety of stalls—everything from fresh produce to handmade crafts. The smells and sounds are fantastic, and it gives a real taste of Fremantle's buzz.
The Mill Bakehouse on Norfolk never disappoints, whether for a quick coffee stop or a longer chill session with friends. Each visit feels like catching up with an old friend, relaxed with just the right dash of excitement. If you find yourself in Fremantle, even if just for a day, make sure you carve out some time to experience this local highlight.
