Flora & Fauna is tucked away in the heart of Fremantle, just the kind of spot you'd expect to find only if you were in the know. It's a cozy little haven right in Atwell Arcade. Walking in, you're greeted by a sense of warmth and the sweet aroma of coffee that instantly peps you up. I've visited a lot of coffee spots around Perth, but this one is something special.

Let's talk about the coffee, which is the star of the show. It's rich, robust, and hits the spot every single time. I've had my fair share of cappuccinos and lattes and theirs consistently ranks at the top. Plus, they serve it in these cute little cups that make the experience feel just a bit fancier. Whether you're a flat white or long black person, you'll find something to love.

Their brunch menu isn't too shabby either. The smashed avo is a crowd-pleaser, beautifully plated and just the right balance of flavors. Their portions are generous but not overwhelming, perfect for when you want to feel satisfied but not stuffed. Don't skip out on the pancakes if you're feeling something sweet; they're fluffy and come with delightful toppings. They cater really well to different diets, too. Whether you're vegan, gluten-free, or just a plain ol' hungry person, they've got you covered.

The café's vibe really shines on sunny mornings, when you can grab a seat outside and people-watch to your heart's content. Dogs get a warm welcome here, which is a big plus for those of us who love spending time with our furry pals. The place itself is wheel-chair accessible, which is thoughtful and inclusive, with accessible seating and toilets.

Flora & Fauna feels rooted in the community, like the owners genuinely want you to have a relaxing time. The staff there are friendly and manage to stay chill even when it's bustling. They always seem happy to be there, and that energy kind of rubs off on everyone who walks in.

Fremantle is a vibrant spot, and Flora & Fauna sits perfectly in harmony with the eclectic mix around Cantonment Street. Just a stone's throw away, you can explore Fremantle Markets if you have time to spare. This market is a treasure trove of quirky finds, from handmade crafts to fresh produce and everything in between.

Then there's the art. Man, this part of Fremantle boasts some amazing street art. Take a stroll around and you might just bump into a few creative murals that are totally ‘grammable. The combination of historical architecture and modern art is pretty unique.

And if you're in a mood for some history, the Round House isn't far. It's the oldest public building in Western Australia, and offers a peek into the region's past. The views from up there are pretty awesome, looking out over Bathers Beach and the Indian Ocean.

Back to Flora & Fauna, one of the best things is how it manages to carve out a little nook of comfort amidst the urban hustle. It's open every day except Thursday, from 8 am to 3 pm, a bit more limited than some places, but they make those hours count. Sundays can get a bit busy, after all, everyone loves a brunch spot that delivers every time.

Another thing I enjoy is their Instagram account. Yeah, I know, everyone and their dog is on Instagram these days, but theirs is filled with beautiful shots of their dishes and cheeky little snapshots of café life. It's a nice way to check what's new or just get a good vibe from them even when you're not sitting there with a cup of joe in hand.

In the end, Flora & Fauna feels like a place you could make into a regular stop. It's not just about the coffee or the food, those are top-notch, for sure. It's more about the feeling you get that you're welcome and appreciated as a guest. Plenty of spots offer good coffee, but it's the warm vibe and attention to the little things that set this one apart.

So, if you're ever in Fremantle and looking for a chill spot to enjoy the day, Flora & Fauna is well worth a visit. There's just something about this cosy corner that makes you want to come back again and again. Trust me, you'll leave with a smile on your face, already planning your next trip in your head.
