Write a ReviewI'm always on the lookout for a good coffee shop in Fremantle. Black Cherries Espresso is right where the action is, down on South Terrace. It's one of those spots that you might walk past if you're not paying close attention, but I'm glad I found it. The shop has an inviting feel, with a simple setup. It's the kind of place where you can pull up a stool, grab a drink, and chat a bit.
This spot has a laid-back vibe, which is perfect for Fremantle. It's great to see they have a wheelchair-accessible entrance, making it easy for everyone to stop by. I appreciate that they are dog-friendly, as I like to take a walk with my pup after work, and we both enjoy their outdoor seating. It's nice to sip on a strong cup of coffee while watching the activity of South Terrace pass by.
Black Cherries has a pretty good selection of coffee and a few light bites. I tend to go for a latte, and I've never been disappointed. A friend of mine swears by their cappuccinos. It's the kind of spot where once the barista knows your regular, it's ready just as you walk through the door. They open at 7:45 am, which is perfect for grabbing a quick coffee before work. Make sure to take note, though—they're shut Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Despite the limited opening days, it's nice they stick around till 8 pm on Fridays. It's a cozy spot to hang out, especially if you're catching up with a mate before heading out. While they don't have their own website, they seem quite active on social media platforms, where they update on any specials or events.
The rest of the week, Black Cherries closes a bit earlier, around 6 pm. Perfect timing for folks like me who finish work a bit earlier and want a treat. With a decent number of reviews, they've managed to keep a rating of 4.1, which speaks well of their quality and service. It's not just tourists sipping here. You'll find a fair number of locals enjoying their favorite brew, especially on a warm Saturday morning.
When I step outside Black Cherries, there's always something happening nearby. Fremantle Markets is just a short stroll down the road, and it's always buzzing on weekends. You'll find everything from fresh produce to unique crafts. I often make it a two-in-one visit: grab a coffee, then hit the market. There are also some fun street performers in the area, which adds to the lively vibe.
Not far from the café, there are a bunch of quirky shops and art galleries that capture the creative spirit of Fremantle. If you've got some time, mosey on over to the Fremantle Prison for a dose of history. It's a fascinating stop, only a couple of blocks away. You won't have trouble spending a few hours around here.
Parking can sometimes be a bit of a hassle around South Terrace, but once you find a spot, it's easy to spend the day wandering. Bicycle racks are plentiful, so cycling is an easy alternative. The streets in the area can be busy, especially during the weekend. Just something to keep in mind if you're in a rush.
If you're feeling peckish for lunch or dinner after your coffee, there are plenty of other eateries nearby. From Italian to Asian, options are a-plenty. Grab a bite at one of the nearby pizzerias or head over to the seafood spots along the harbor. Little Creatures Brewery is also in walking distance if you want to switch your beverage of choice later in the day. It's a fantastic spot for a beer with friends.
As a regular visitor to coffee shops in Perth, I'm always on the hunt for something genuine and easy-going. Black Cherries Espresso gives me exactly that. It's not pretentious or over the top. It simply offers a place for a moment of calm over a cup of coffee, with the buzz of Fremantle surrounding you.
If you're ever in Freo and need a caffeine fix, give Black Cherries a shot. You might just find it becomes one of your favorites too.
