Write a ReviewI stumbled upon Higher Grounds in East Perth while on one of my regular coffee hunts. This place is tucked away on Hay Street and has quickly become one of my favorite spots in town. If you love a good cup of coffee, this place is a must-visit. The moment you walk in, you're greeted by a cozy vibe and a friendly team that's always ready with a smile.
Their business hours run from Monday to Friday, starting at 7 in the morning until early afternoon. It's a perfect spot for your morning pick-me-up before work or a midday break. They're closed on weekends, which is a bit of a bummer for a weekend coffee lover like me, but their weekday service more than makes up for it.
Their coffee is solid, with a robust flavor that lingers just right. It's evident why they've got such a stellar rating—I think it's 4.8 stars from over 130 reviews. The first sip tells you this is a place that knows their beans. I've tried both their latte and cappuccino, and both were spot on each time. They also nail the balance in flavors without being too milk-heavy or bitter. Their baristas surely know the ropes, brewing with skill and expertise.
Besides their good coffee, I've got to mention their selection of pastries and sandwiches. Just the right amount of options for a quick bite. Grab one of their ham and cheese croissants or maybe a freshly baked muffin. Definitely try the pastries when you stop by—they're always fresh and tasty.
Higher Grounds also offers both indoor and outdoor seating, which I appreciate depending on my mood. When the weather's nice, sitting outside is just lovely. You can enjoy your drink while soaking in a bit of East Perth. The area is pleasant and not too busy, which is part of the charm. It's a little slice of quiet in a bustling city. If you're in a rush, they've got takeaway options as well. You can place an order and be on your way in no time.
The shop is wheelchair accessible, which speaks to their focus on being inclusive and welcoming to everyone. There's also Wi-Fi available, making it a decent spot for catching up on some emails or doing a bit of reading. Their interior is calm and no-fuss, which adds to a relaxed experience.
One of their cool features is that they welcome dogs. So, if you've got a furry friend, feel free to bring them along. I've met a few friendly pups during my visits, which always makes my day.
The location is ideal if you're spending some time exploring East Perth. After your coffee fix, you can enjoy a stroll; Wellington Square and Queens Gardens are nearby. These spots are perfect for a leisurely walk or a lazy afternoon. The serene atmosphere there is ideal if you need a break from the daily grind.
If you're into a bit of culture, the Perth Mint is not too far away. It's a fascinating place where you can learn some local history, and it makes for a great follow-up to your coffee stop. East Perth is a vibrant part of the city with a mix of residential areas and local spots to discover.
For a hearty meal, you can find plenty of other eateries around. But honestly, starting the morning with a coffee from Higher Grounds sets the right tone for the day. Their Instagram page, which I checked out after a friend mentioned it, gives a little preview of what to expect. It's quite active, and the photos make the drinks and food look even more tempting.
In terms of customer service, it's top-notch. The crew is attentive and quick, making sure you don't wait long for your order. After a few visits, they start to recognize you, which gives the place more of a community feel.
A couple of things to keep in mind: they wrap up by 1:30 pm, so if you're not a morning person, plan accordingly. And as mentioned, they close on weekends, so you'll need to get your fix during the week.
All in all, Higher Grounds has a good mix of excellent coffee, customer service, and that local charm which makes it a standout in my book. It's an easy spot to recommend to both tourists and locals alike. If you're like me and always on the lookout for solid coffee spots in Perth, make sure to drop by Higher Grounds. You won't regret it.
