Write a ReviewWhenever I'm craving a good brew and a dose of ocean air, I wander over to Ol' Buoy in Cottesloe. Nestled right in the Indiana Teahouse, this spot is the real deal. It's perched on Marine Parade, where the salty breeze and sun become part of the experience. Parking can be a bit of a quest on busy days, but the walk along the beach is always worth it.
The coffee here checks all my boxes. It's got a kick to it, just the way I like. Whether you need a strong espresso or just a solid flat white, Ol' Buoy has you covered. Their baristas know their craft. Each brew feels spot on, and they've got takeaway for those beach strolls. For lazy afternoons, outdoor seating is prime. You get to sip and feel the warmth of Perth's sun. It's a laid-back spot, but if you're looking for a view, you've hit the jackpot.
Food options are good, too. Don't expect a sprawling menu, but what they have is tasty. I've munched on their pastries, and they hit the spot. The croissants are nice and flaky. Pairing one with a hot drink is my go-to here. I love that they do simple things well, without overcomplicating anything.
Their opening hours fit a morning wanderer's schedule. They kick things off at 6 am. You get time to grab your coffee before diving into the day. If you doze off a bit, no worries. They go strong until mid-afternoon.
Dogs are welcome, which is always a plus in my book. It's cool to see other pet owners unwind with their furry pals. I've made a couple of doggy friends here, which is always a bonus. They've got good space, and no one's tripping over chairs, so it feels relaxing.
On weekends, things can get busy. Early mornings remain the best bet for a peaceful moment by the sea. If you roll in late, you might have to wait a bit. But there's always something to watch as you queue up.
Ol' Buoy's Instagram is worth checking. They keep it updated, and it's pretty cool to see what's happening. It's helpful for specials and any pop-up events they might have planned. Social media does a good job in keeping things fresh and engaging.
Close by, you have Cottesloe Beach. After coffee, a dip in the ocean is just right. It's one of our top beach spots, with golden sand and clean waters. On warm days, people are out surfing. You can rent paddleboards if you want more adventure.
Cottesloe's charm doesn't stop at the beach. The area is sprinkled with art, like the famous Sculpture by the Sea. This annual event turns the shoreline into a surprise outdoor gallery. Installations from artists all over the world make it a can't-miss.
Hungry for more than just coffee? The area does seafood well. Several places nearby serve fresh fish and chips that I'm always drawn to. Nothing like crispy chips with tartar sauce post-swim.
If shopping is on your mind, wander along Napoleon Street. It's not too far and lined with boutique shops. You find everything from designer clothing to quirky gifts. My personal favorite is exploring the unique stores for local finds.
The crowd here has a mix. You'll see locals reading papers, backpackers with surfboards, and families. Everyone's laid back, embracing the easygoing vibe of Cottesloe. People move at their pace, enjoying each moment.
For anyone out for a stroll, each corner of this suburb holds new sights. The Norfolk Pines stand tall, shadowing parts of the beach path. Makes me stop and snap a pic every time.
Public transport options are decent, thanks to the nearby Cottesloe Train Station. If you're coming from Perth's CBD, the train drops you close enough to enjoy a peaceful walk along the seaside.
At the end of the day, Ol' Buoy is more than just a coffee shop. It stands as a warm welcome to a community vibe. This place feels like a cozy corner, enriched by the sounds and sights of our beloved coast.
If you're around Perth and need a coffee and conversation spot, check it out. There's a good chance you'll see me, sipping away and soaking in sunshine.
